The Slow Route to Corfu, Greece
In 2024 we tried taking the night ferry from Italy directly to the beautiful island of Corfu. The ferry leaves from Venice, Ancona or Bari in Italy.
Corfu was a beautiful adventure, with white washed beaches and cliffs taking bringing back memories from Bali. This island has a lot to offer, from nature, beaches, wineries & of course greek food. A must to add to your European travel bucketlist!
Explore Cliff Towns in Puglia, Italy
A region that feels very exotic is the beautiful region of Puglia. With olive fields, cliff towns and rich history this area is a must visit if you want to experience something different in 2025!
Additionally most towns can be reached by train - great for the conscious traveller!
Favourite towns: Polignano a Mare, Bari, Lecce & Otranto
Watch the Midnight Sun in Northern Norway
Norway is one of my favourite countries in Europe. How can it not be when you have a wide variety of nature wonders. With beautiful deep valleys and crystal blue water in the fjords, beaches that looks like Thailand and depending on which time of year you go - you can explore both midnight sun and polar nights with northern lights.
If you haven't yet been to Northern Norway such as Narvik, Lofoten, Bodø or Tromsø - it's time to start planning that trip. And I highly recommend you to take the train there as it is an experience in itself.
Did you for instance know that the train from Trondheim to Bodø is considered one of the most beautiful train routes in Europe?
Night train through the Alps, Austria
You, me and a movie night on a train through the Alps? Something magical about going to bed with this view.
One of the most memorable trips I've done by train this year was to board the train in Innsbruck to Hamburg while the sun was setting and our movie was playing. In the morning we got breakfast served in our sleeper cabin.
If you want to try this, there are several night trains going through the Alps, such as ÖBB nightjet Munich - Tuscany - Rome, or Innsbruck to Hamburg, or the new European Sleeper and their train from Brussels to Innsbruck and Venice.
Slovenia's Julian Alps by Train
Slovenia, lovely Slovenia. It amazes me that not more people talk about this country. Beautiful landscapes, stunning train routes, wine, food & friendly people. What more do you need?
My two favourite routes were going from Jesenice to Nova Gorica, through the Julian Alps, and the second one was Graz to Ljubljana. Going alongside beautiful blue rivers.
Wander the Oldest city of Italy
Matera, the city dating back to 9000 b.c. If you want to feel like travelling back in time, this is where you should go next. This town is located in Basilicata in the south of Italy. You can take one direct train each day from Bari to get here.
While you're here, don't skip booking a stay at a cave hotel or fine dining in a michelin starred restaurant or a restaurant located in one of the many city caves. This trip is a bucketlist travel for sure!
Ultimate train adventure Sweden - Spain
One of the most memorable travels I did in 2024 was going by train all the way from Malaga, Spain to Stockholm, Sweden. With lots of fun and beautiful stops - including Sevilla, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Paris & Hamburg. In total just a week of travel but 10,000 memories.
